Do not be alarmed! This is an actual update! I say again, do not be alarmed! It’s been a while, I know, but don’t worry: I don’t intend to bore you with the particulars of my absence. Why talk about the past when we can talk about the future, after all, especially when 2016 is off to such a phenomenal start? Without further ado, here we go…
The biggest announcement is that I’ve finally finished the first draft of Between Kings and Carnage, my standalone contribution to Ann Christy’s Between Life and Death series. The final word count came to 114,706, which is roughly forty thousand more than I originally planned for. So, yeah, it’s fair to say it’s been a pretty wild ride. If you haven’t already, you can read the first five chapters here to get a sense of my take on Ann’s incredible world.
So, what’s next? Well, normally after I finish writing a story (especially one so long), I like to take a week or two to let it breathe before editing. This time, though, I actually have a good reason! Now that I’ve finished the first draft of BKAC, I’m thrilled to announce that I’m switching gears to work on a short story for Beyond the Stars 2: A Planet Too Far! In case you’re not aware, BTS2 is the upcoming follow-up to last year’s Dark Beyond the Stars, one of my absolute favorite anthologies of 2015. I can’t say much about the story yet, except that it will be set in the universe of my space opera novel The Lazarus Particle. (For those of you who have read LazPar, it will also include at least one familiar face. See if you can guess which one!)
I’m also planning on independently publishing both of my Future Chronicles anthology stories from last year. I’m already in the process of acquiring covers for “Eve’s Awakening” (The A.I. Chronicles) and “Renegat” (ALT.HISTORY 101), both of which will be available for 99¢ when they’re released. “Eve’s Awakening” may even include some additional content, although that’s not official yet.
And that’s only a sampling of what I have planned for the first half of the year! The bottom line is that 2016 is already shaping up to be fantastic. I hope you’re excited and looking forward to what the rest of the year brings, and not just for me, but the entire indie author community. I know I am!
